English Language Arts (ELA)

Grades K-5

Grade 6

SpringBoard (2018 edition) English Language Arts students develop and refine skills in critical thinking, close reading, writing in various genres, and doing research.  Over the course of the program, they read and analyze a wide range of texts in genres including poetry, novels, plays, biographies, nonfiction narratives, speeches, and films.  They also learn to write in forms including essays, personal narratives, argumentative texts such as editorials, and research papers.  This course is structured around the theme, "Change."

Write From the Beginning and Beyond (WFBB) is a comprehensive, systemically structured, writing curriculum designed to assist educators and students develop the knowledge and skills necessary for age-appropriate and domain-specific writing achievement.  It builds on the power of Thinking Maps to establish a school-wide focus on effective writing across all grade levels and content areas. Each of the domains of writing utilizes a combination of modeling, analytic rubrics, and mini-lessons that focus on the essential elements of effective writing.  Areas of focus include:

Grade 6

HMH GO Math! series (2014 edition) was written specifically to support the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics with a focus on depth of instruction, equal emphasis on conceptual understanding and procedural fluency, the integration of the Standards for Mathematical Practice with every lesson, and a coherent articulation across grade levels. Science

Grades K-6
STEMscopes is an online curriculum that is aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The program uses digital platform, print, and hands-on kits, to provide a comprehensive approach to the Disciplinary Core Ideas, Crosscutting Concepts, and Science and Engineering Practices through the student-driven inquiry of phenomena. The lessons are based on the 5E model (Engage, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate).
Social Studies
Social Studies is the study of humanity--people and events that have individually and collectively affected and shaped our world today.  Lessons and integrated units of study prepare our youngsters to grow as active and informed citizens who maintain the ideals of our democratic society.  The major strands in Social Studies for students in grades K-6 are: History, Geography, Economics, and Civics.  Grade level content focus are as follows:
