Google Apps for Education- Pridge Gmail

 The purpose of the Google Apps for Education account will be to provide students with features such as, email, document creation tools, shared calendars, and collaboration tools.  Google Apps for Education runs on an Internet domain owned by the school and is intended for educational use. The purpose of the google apps account is created solely to provide students and teachers with a platform to collaborate communicate with each other to support what they are learning in the classroom. Additionally a valid email address is required to create other 3rd party online tools and services.    Google Apps for Education is also available at home, the library, or anywhere with Internet access.   

Google Apps for Education is for educational use only. Students will use Apps for school use only and are subject to the restrictions below.  Additional school rules and Chapter 19 policies that may apply.

Precautionary Measures of Google Apps for Education:

  • Students are not able to send or receive email messages from email addresses outside our PRIDGE domain.  It is automatically blocked by our system settings.
  • Students will participate in a mandatory 2 part series in learning about creating secure passwords and being ethical users of technology
  • Students will be asked to change, remember and keep their their email password a secret to prevent others from logging into and using their email account.
  • Students are not allowed to email their classmates in communicating personal/non-school related messages.

Grade K- GAFE is necessary in order to create other 3rd party tools and resources such as: Evernote, Edmodo and Dropbox accounts

Privacy and Protection Acts

Child Internet Protection Act (CIPA)

The school is required by CIPA to have technology measures and policies in place that protect students from harmful materials including those that are obscene and pornographic. This means that student email is filtered. Mail containing harmful content from inappropriate sites will be blocked.

Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

COPPA applies to commercial companies and limits their ability to collect personal information from children under 13. By default, Google advertising is turned off for Apps for Education users. No personal student information is collected for commercial purposes. This permission form allows the school to act as an agent for parents in the collection of information within the school context. The school’s use of student information is solely for education purposes.

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

FERPA protects the privacy of student education records and gives parents rights to review student records. Under FERPA, schools may disclose directory information (name, phone, address, grade level, etc...) but parents may request that the school not disclose this information.
  1. The school will not publish confidential education records (grades, student ID #, etc...) for public viewing on the Internet.
  2. The school may publish student work and photos for public viewing but will not publish student last names or other personally identifiable information.
  3. Parents may request that photos, names and general directory information about their children not be published.
  4. Parents have the right at any time to investigate the contents of their child’s email and Apps for Education files.
